[11/17/16] Next Northshore Substation Community Meeting Likely In February

Posted in Public Utility
Here’s the latest on the north shore substation from Chelan County PUD:
The PUD and some of your neighbors have been looking for a location for a new substation between Chelan and Manson. The last time a substation was built in the area was 1980 and as we know over the last 10+ years, the Chelan basin has seen significant growth and that growth trend is expected to continue.
On September 20, 2016 PUD staff presented an update on the substation siting process at the PUD Commission meeting. PUD Commissioners asked staff to continue searching for additional sites for further analysis and comparisons.

Working with the community, two additional properties have been identified, providing the PUD with three total properties for further analysis. These properties include Chelan Heights and Uhrich properties near Area 14 and Washington Federal near Area 17. Two different sites are under consideration on the Washington Federal property. Please see this map for reference.

In December and January, the PUD’s consultant will perform site analysis that will include detailed costs, transmission and distribution route alternatives, and renderings of what a substation would look like on each of the identified locations.

PUD staff anticipates hosting another community meeting in February 2017 to gather input from the community on the detailed cost analysis and renderings. Once this meeting is scheduled, PUD staff will advertise in the following ways: direct mail postcard, email distribution list, webpage, Lake Chelan Mirror, GoLakeChelan, and KOZI radio. The public is invited to that meeting for discussion and questions.

The PUD is always open to hear public comment. You can share your public comments on the siting of the Chelan substation using the public comment form on the webpage or my emailing teka.sellers@chelanpud.org or calling 509-661-4294.
