[10/25/16] Manson Soccer Loses Nail Biter 3-2 In Overtime

On Senior night under the lights at the Manson Athletic Complex(MAC) the Lady Trojans soccer team from Manson high school left it all out on the field.  After dominating play in the first and second half they took a lead with 20 minutes left to go. However, with under three minutes left Lake Roosevelt scored a scrappy goal off a corner, taking the game to overtime where LR eventually won in a penalty shootout, 3-2.

The game started off with ten minutes of heavy Lake Roosevelt pressure as the Manson Lady Trojans were brushing off their nerves, playing their first game at the MAC with a large crowd watching. However, as the game went along Manson began to find their way, creating opportunities and putting LR under heavy pressure.  By halftime it was 0-0 but Manson felt confident going into the second half.  They continued to pile on the pressure until Umbe Valdovinos set up Nadia Verdasco for a beautiful goal nestled into the bottom lefthand corner!  Manson continued to play their game, putting more and more pressure on Lake Roosevelt and creating some great chances.  In the dying minutes, however, after a series of corner kicks for LR, a mad scramble in front of goal lead to the tying goal for Lake Roosevelt.  Although it was a devastating blow to Manson, they continued to fight!  The pressure continued until the end of regulation.  Overtime did not change anything either with continual Lady Trojan pressure.  In the end, the game would be decided by the dreaded penalty shootout.  The shootout went to all five shooters but in the end Lake Roosevelt came out on top 3-2.

Although the loss was painful for the Lady Trojans the growth in their team is visible for all to see.  And a large home crowd, largest of the year, were present to experience the highs and lows of the game.
