[8/29/16] Horrific Boat Accident On Lake Chelan Ends With Serious Injuries

Posted in Feature

A late night joy ride on Lake Chelan ended with a horrific boat crash Friday night, sending two occupants of the boat to the hospital, one with serious injuries.

Just before 11 PM, south shore residents in the Missouri Harbor area reported hearing a speeding boat followed by a crash and screams for help.

With assistance from area residents, Chelan County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to locate the accident scene.

Reportedly, the water ski style boat had struck a rock cliff at a high rate of speed, and was demolished on impact.

Two male occupants of the boat suffered serious injuries. One was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the other was released from Lake Chelan Community Hospital after treatment for multiple injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Area residents report hearing a party directly across the lake at Mitchell Creek Campground just prior to the boating accident.

The lone boat involved in the accident is registered to Jet Ski’s Ahoy on West Woodin Avenue in Chelan and the two injured men are reportedly employees of the boat rental operation.

On Saturday, the boat wreckage was towed to Mill Bay Park for removal. We have a photo of the almost unrecognizable boat on our website at KOZI.COM.
