Methow Conservancy First Tuesday Program

Tracking Purple Martins – to South America and Back

Tuesday, May 1st, 7:00-8:30pm

at the Winthrop Barn, free

Wildlife biologist Julie Hovis will share information from a ground-breaking study she helped run in South Carolina on Purple Martin migration using geolocator tracking devices.  Julie managed and monitored a purple martin colony in South Carolina that successfully fledged over 900 nestlings during a 12-year period.  Learn about the Purple Martin’s life and migration cycle, nesting biology and pre-migratory roosts.  Julie will also talk briefly about the status of the Purple Martin in Washington.

The doors open at 6:30pm.  The event is free and open to everyone.  For more information, contact 996-2870 or mary@methowconservancy.org
