The final community meeting for the Lake Chelan Community Open Space Vision is on Wednesday, September 13th. Community members will have a final opportunity to shape this vision and set long-term priorities for the region’s open space.

Chelan, WA – The Lake Chelan Community Open Space Vision will be hosting its final Community Meeting on Wednesday, September 13th at 5:30pm at the City of Chelan Council Chambers.

The Lake Chelan Community Open Space Vision is a comprehensive community‐based vision for balancing strategic protection of open space and recreation with continued local development. It will help local communities make informed decisions about protecting important resources, including open spaces, water quality, and recreational opportunities.
The vision statement for this effort, which was developed through previous community meetings, is:
“To thrive in a valley defined by its spectacular scenery, small town character, agrarian traditions, and world-class recreation, and leave a community rich in opportunities for future generations.”
There has been enormous public input in this process so far. Community members provided over 720 survey responses. Of these, 118 responses were collected at local high schools, and 79 responses were collected by high school students using a Spanish-language survey. Project partners also collected feedback from 409 community members at local events. Over 150 residents have participated in one or more of the community meetings for the Open Space Vision.

Shelley Charlton, Business Education Teacher/FBLA Advisor at Chelan High School, engaged her photography students and asked her class to submit photos of the local landscape, recreation activities, and wildlife to help showcase the natural beauty found in Chelan. The students submitted beautiful images captured during their semester, and graciously shared their photos to be showcased in the Chelan Community Open Space Vision. Thank you to the students at Chelan High School who submitted photos.

Please join the City of Chelan, Lake Chelan Trails Alliance, Chelan‐Douglas Land Trust, and The Trust for Public Land on Wednesday, September 13th at 5:30pm at the City of Chelan Council Chambers for this final meeting. The agenda for the meeting includes an overview of the process and highlights; an introduction to the new web-based Open Space Vision Story Map; a discussion of implementation steps; and a celebration of the community’s accomplishments.
