Not a lot of big surprises to be found in Tuesday night’s Primary Election results, although Manson native, Mike Steele’s 10 percentage point lead over his closest challenger to become the next 12th District State Representative may not have been totally expected…

Preliminary numbers from Tuesday’s Primary Election show Mike Steele with 36.4% of the votes followed by Jerry Paine’s 26.8%. Eliminated in the Primary Election were Garn Christensen and Danny Stone.

Updated ballot count will take place on Friday, however it appears as though Mike Steele will face Jerry Paine in the November General Election. Steele says he will enjoy yesterday’s victory, but will quickly turn to focus on the General Election…

Steele and Paine are vying for the 12th District Representative Seat, vacated by Brad Hawkins, who is giving up that position to run for State Senate, following Linda Evans-Parlette’s retirement announcement earlier this year.

Hawkins squared up against Okanogan County resident Jon Wyss in Tuesday’s Primary Election with Hawkins coming out on top with 66% of the vote to Jon Wyss’ 34%. Wyss told KOZI News on Election night, that he wasn’t deterred by the large margin…

There were just the two candidates, Hawkins and Wyss seeking that 12th District State Senator– they both move on to the November General Election.

In other Okanogan County Election results, Three Rivers Hospital had a pair of levies on Tuesday’s ballot-

One is too close to call, the other appears to be failing.

Proposition 1 is a 1-year special levy, which needed 60% voter approval. It came up with 50.4% – and is likely not going to pass.

Proposition 2 is a levy lid lift, which needed 50% voter approval to pass– it has 50.2% with 754 voters saying yes, 747 saying no- just a slim 7 vote margin— too close to call.

That Levy Lid Lift will be decided on Friday with an updated ballot count.
