Posted in Education

Last week, a bat from Chelan County tested positive for rabies.

Chrystal Eshelman, Director of Health Communications for Chelan-Douglas Health District, told KOZI that this is the first time in four years that a bat from Chelan County has tested positive…

0805816 Rabies Bat 1 :36 “…contact with the bat.”

Bats in the wild tend to stay away from people, and Eshelman says people should do the same to bats…

080816 Rabies Bat 2 1:02 “…your doctor right away.”

To avoid possible exposure to rabies, do not touch live or dead bats and make sure your homes open windows and doors have screens.

If you are bitten by a bat: wash the wound with soap and water and get medical attention within 24 hours.

You should also contact the Chelan Douglas Health District by calling 509-886-6400.
