[7/1/16] No Fireworks In The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest

With the 4th of July weekend upon us, fire officials would like to remind forest visitors that fireworks are illegal in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.

Robin Demario, Spokeswoman for the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, says fireworks are banned year round- and is reminding visitors as we celebrate a holiday associated with fireworks…

Monetary penalties for fireworks possession on the national forest will be enforced. Violators may be subject to a citation and fine with a maximum penalty of &5,000 or up to six months in jail.

Anyone who starts a wildfire can be held liable for suppression costs which can often run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, or more.

There are currently no campfire restrictions in effect on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest- but, Demario warns, that could change…
