Malaga Fire 5/30/2014

A very fast moving brush fire was reported along the Malaga-Alcoa between mileposts 7 and 8 Wednesday afternoon outside of Wenatchee. The fire took out power of over 200 homes and businesses, including Alcoa's Wenatchee Works. The fire, being pushed south by strong winds, is at an estimated 1500 acres large, was contained along the highway as of 7:30 Wednesday night, and most had power back by mid morning Thursday. Chelan County PUD Public Information Officer Christy Shearer, said at this time the PUD does not know how much money the fire has cost them in damages, but repairs to power lines have already begun.

At this time, the cause of the fire is still unknown. A fire investigator was brought in yesterday to begin evidence collection. Public Information Officer for Chelan Fire District 1, Cindy Blaufyss, gave us the most current information available at the time of our interview. Fortunately, there were no injuries, or structures lost in the fire. We will have more information when available.
