Armed Forces Day Celebration 5/12/2014

The American Red Cross Apple Valley Chapter, in partnership with Vets Serving Vets, Wenatchee Valley College Vet Corps and other local businesses and Veterans organizations, are proud to host the Third Annual Armed Forces Day Celebration at the Pybus Public Market on Saturday, May 17th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The celebration is open to the community and is free of charge. East Wenatchee Mayor Lacey is expected to be in attendance.

The event will kick off at 11:00 a.m. with a flag ceremony coordinated by VFW Post 3617. Military members, veterans and their families will be entered in to raffle drawings and will also receive a free BBQ lunch cooked by the Knights of Columbus. The lunch has been underwritten by donations from several local organizations.

Families will be treated to various entertainment including guest speakers, presentations, music, a photo booth, bounce house, face painting, and a magic show. Coyote, the Apple Sox mascot, will be available for pictures from noon to 1:00 p.m. Veterans resource groups and organizations including Vets Serving Vets, Quilts of Valor, and the Red Cross will also be on hand. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to express their appreciation by signing a “Thank You Veterans” banner from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Once complete, the banner will be presented to all veterans, but will be accepted on their behalf by local WWII veterans.

Special thanks to our sponsors who made this event possible: VFW Post 3617; Vets Serving Vets; Antique Mall of Wenatchee; Ladders of Love Learning Center & Preschool; WVC Veteran Knights Club; Geri & Ryan Gutzwiler. Also thanks to these local businesses who have made in-kind donations to the celebration: Apple Sox; Jason Sims; Jump for Fun Inflatables; Pybus Public Market; Costco; Grocery Outlet; Ravenous Catering; Rivet; Target; Tree Top; URM Cash & Carry; WalMart; The Wild Huckleberry; Weinstein Beverage, South; and Icicle Ridge Winery.
