Two Cities Drop Out- Chelan Still Negotiating 5/17/2013
Two of the four Chelan County Cities, who joined forces to negotiate contracts with the ChelanCounty Sheriff’s Office have announced their intent not to renew their contract.
Leavenworth and Cashmere have both dropped out of negotiations- saying the cost is more than they can swallow.
ChelanCounty Sheriff’s Office has proposed a new 8-percent increase that would take effect in 2014- and plans to meet with the mayors of the two remaining cities considering law enforcement contracts: Chelan and Entiat to continue negotiations.
Entiat Mayor, Keith Vradenburg, says when you compare the cost of deputies- ChelanCounty is very high.
The City of Chelan pays about $1.3 million annually for services provided by ChelanCounty Sheriff’s Office- which includes court services and RiverCom Dispatch.
The current contract expires at the end of this year.
Tune in to KOZI this morning, when we will have Chelan City Officials in studio shortly after 8am- for their take on this issue.
