The Three Rivers Board of Commissioners made a motion to change their method of reviewing bad debt and charity care at their meeting on Monday.
Bad Debt consists of services for which the hospital anticipated, but did not receive payment for.
Charity Care consists of services for which the hospital did not receive or expect to receive payment for because the patient met state mandated criteria of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and was deemed unable to pay.
Rebecca Meadows, Director of Community Relations and Marketing for Three Rivers Hospital, says part of the reason the hospital continues to acquire uncompensated care costs through bad debt and charity care is because it is a critical access hospital.
Meadows also says the board discussed the need to relocate the emergency department.
The Three Rivers Hospital Board of Commissioners meets the fourth Monday of each month, however, May’s meeting falls on Memorial Day- so will be moved up a week to Monday, May 20th at 4PM."CLICK HERE" for Audio
