FFA Job Interview Career Development Event 3/29/2013
Chelan FFA members had the first opportunity of the year to punch their tickets for the 84th Washington State FFA Convention on the campus of WashingtonStateUniversity in Pullman.  They traveled to Wenatchee to compete in the Agriculture Issues Forum and Job Interview Career Development Events.

The Job Interview Career Development Event requires students to prepare a resume, write a cover letter for a job that have the knowledge and skills to perform, fill out an handwritten application, go through a phone and personal interview, and then write a follow up letter.  Apolinar Blanco and Lupe Villasenor brought home the first and second place banners respectively and will move on to represent District VII in the state CDE.  Crystal Avila also competed in Job Interview placing 6th.

The Agriculture Issues Forum CDE asks members to form a team of three to seven members and research a current issue in agriculture.  They then prepare a fifteen minute presentation that presents both sides of an issue without posing a solution to the issue.  Teams are allowed to choose the format of their presentation.  Chelan had two teams in this competition.  The team of Lupe Villasenor, Eric Oscarson, and Ian Cowell chose to prepare a presentation on the Immigration Issue surrounding farmworkers in the WashingtonState tree fruit industry.  They earned the third place banner and a trip to state.   The team of Bobby Hanson, Jake Straub, Javier Rivera, Apolinar Blanco and Ryan Gerber chose the issue of Grey Wolves in Landscape and they brought home the second place banner.

The issues teams will now have to present five public forums before the first of May.  So if you would like to learn more about these issues as seen through the eyes of our youth, or would just like to give them an opportunity to hone their skills, please contact the Chelan FFA at 509-682-4061 ext 129.
