Chelan Reconsiders General Facility Charges 3/18/2013
The Chelan City Council revisited their General Facility Charges during last week’s council meeting- after reducing the fees a year ago to reflect those from 2006.

GFC’s were originally adopted by the City of Chelan in 2006 as a method to generate revenue for water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades to accommodate for future growth.

ChelanCity Administrator, Paul Schmidt, explains that state law allows city’s to charge an appropriate fee to connect to existing  water and sewer plants, but the process is far from simple.

Schmidt says that what started as a simple report last week, turned into a rather spirited discussion.

At the end of the night, the Chelan City Council decided to keep the General Facility Charges as is- which according to Paul Schmidt, was amended last year from $5,200 to $1,700 per Equivalent Residential Unit in the downtown area.

The chelan City Council will revisit the General Facility Charge at a future council meeting after more research and consideration.
