Manson Fire District 5 has officially kicked off their smoke detector campaign thanks to an Assistance to Firefighters grant through the Washington State Association of Fire Marshals.
The grant will allow firefighters to install hundreds of detectors in homes throughout the community.
Manson Fire Chief, Arnold Baker, says his department was one of just five departments who were awarded funds to pay for the program.
Nearly two thirds of home fire deaths are a result of fires in homes without a working smoke alarm- that’s a number of State Fire marshal’s Office hopes to improve with Free Smoke Alarm Installation Programs like the one in Manson.
