Chelan County PUD worked with state and federal fisheries agencies in developing the first Hydro Power Habitat Conservation Plan for salmon and steelhead- and is receiving rave reviews for the fish bypass systems.
PUD Commissioner, Norm Gutzwiller, says the conservation plans are the result of a lot of work and did not transpire overnight.
Gutzwiler admits that the plan was somewhat of a pipe dream, considering the Rocky Reach dam bypass pipe.
The agencies and tribes that joined the PUD in signing the plans were the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, NOAA Fisheries, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife and Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation.
