Construction of a new barge ramp is currently underway at Lucerne to accommodate the loading and unloading of heavy equipment and supplies in support of the Holden Mine Remediation Project.
Jolene Gosselin-Campbell, Holden Mine Assistant Remedial Project Manager for the US Forest Service, says the new barge ramp will be located near the existing Lady of the Lake dock.
The mining company, Intalco, a Rio Tinto subsidiary and successor to the original Howe Sound Mining operation in Holden, is funding the entire project, and all components- including this barge ramp which, according to Gosselin-Campbell, is already in progress.
Project officials expect to see crews start to move in next month with full operations of the Holden mine Clean up project kicking back into full swing by the end of May.
