For the first time in his five years in office, Chelan Mayor, Bob Goedde was forced to vote to break a tie after the council reconsidered a previously passed motion last week- that initially added 19 mountain hemlock trees to the Safeway Corner Beautification Project.
Goedde voted against planting the trees – siding with Mike Steele, Erin McCardle and Mike Cooney- turning over the decision that was made during the February 14th Council meeting.
Council member Mike Cooney gave us some background on the project.
Cooney says that after the council approved the planting pallet for the project, he questioned the change from the original plan and contacted City Administrator, Paul Schmidt regarding his concerns.
Stan Morehouse, Ben Higgins and Wendy Isenhart all voted to keep the trees as part of the Safeway Corner Beautification Project- and Guy Harper was absent.
