ChelanCounty Sheriff’s Office is investigating a recent string of local mail theft cases that resulted in several fraud and forgery complaints.

 

ChelanCounty Sheriff’s Office North Sergeant, Rob Huddleston, says the recent thefts are occurring right under the victim’s noses.

 

Sergeant Huddleston suggests finding a more secure way to collect your mail.

 

According to the Bureau of Justice website – in 2010, 7% of households in the United States, which amounted to about 8.6 million homes, had at least one member 12-years of age or older, who was a victim of identity theft.

 

The total direct financial loss due to identity theft in 2010 was about $13.3 billion- averaging about $2,200 per household.
