With the approval and implementation of a new Traffic Safety Program through the ChelanCounty Sheriff’s Office- KOZI listeners questioned the plans to expand the program by way of revenue from issuing tickets.
So, we turned to Sheriff Brian Burnett for answers to those concerns—and he explains that the program is to serve a purpose of educating the public and reducing fatalities on county roadways—just as the title indicates; improving traffic safety.
Burnett says the program is funded through the Public Works Department- and is in addition to a public works deputy already on duty, who is specifically trained in the commercial vehicle aspect.
Burnett also gave us a bit of insight into how the program will operate.
The program will be reviewed by the Sheriff’s Office as well as the Public Works Department and if it proves successful through data and revenue- it will reach a total of 4 deputies by 2014.
