Bridgeport City Puts Hold On Pot Use 1/16/2013
The Bridgeport City Council, last week, took a step towards coming to grips with the possible implications of a new state law that legalizes medical marijuana – by way of a 60-day moratorium on the drug. A question many cities are struggling with since the law took effect last month.
Bridgeport Mayor, Marilyn Lynn, says the marijuana freeze will enable the council to research and possibly seek guidance from state officials on how it should be regulated.
The new law, which was passed by voters in the November general election, launched WashingtonState into the history books as the first state in the nation to legalize marijuana for recreational use. The initiative removes criminal sanctions for anyone 21-years old or older possessing one ounce or less of pot for personal use.
