The Brewster City Council approved their 2013 budget during their regular meeting Wednesday night- which included the reinstatement of a sixth police officer. That addition, however, came at a price: the elimination of a clerk position.
The topic of a sixth officer has remained a topic of discussion since the retirement of an officer last January. At that time the council voted not to hire a replacement.
Three council members have since resigned- and the new council wasted little time in bringing the police force back to full strength.
Brewster Mayor, Lee Webster, says the addition of the sixth officer does require the city to say goodbye to a clerk position.
Mayor Webster expects to see the sixth police officer in place in early 2013.
