Wednesday marks the start of a Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI holiday campaign, a statewide emphasis aimed at eliminating drunk drivers from Washington roads.
Each year nearly 11 thousand people die due to drunk driving, with an increase in accidents during the holiday months.
Chelan-Douglas Target Zero Traffic Safety Task Force will organize and support the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over event with participation from Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan County Sheriff Departments as well as local Police Departments and the Washington State Patrol.
Captain Doug Jones, with the Wenatchee Police Department, told KOZI that extra officers will be canvassing area roadways and urges people to plan ahead when going to holiday parties and celebrations.
Don’t let a DUI ruin your holiday celebration. Before you leave home for the party, think about how everyone can get home safely. Designate a sober driver, take a taxi or stay the night.
