The potential for major erosion following this summers wildfires has homeowners and forest manager concerned about the possibility of damaging storm water runoff next spring.
Forest Hydrologist Greg Kuyumijian describes what efforts are underway in the Okanogan-WenatcheeNational Forest to mitigate the affects of the fires, specifically near First Creek on the southshore of Lake Chelan.
Kuyumijian said the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is working cooperatively with private land owners downstream from
the burned areas to evaluate potential threats and can provide assistance
to prevent damage from storm water water runoff.
