After months of discussion the Winthrop Town Council has decided not to allow all terrain vehicles on the streets of Winthrop. The final decision was reached at last Wednesday’s Council meeting.
Winthrop Mayor Dave Acheson said the Council asked for public input before acting on last summers request to open the streets to ATV’s and the public responded.
The Council could revisit the issue sometime in the future but Acheson said the council chose to support the direction echoed from those who live in the community.
The Methow Valley Chapter of the North Central ATV Club has been campaigning to open county roads to ATV vehicles with a focus on first getting towns and cities with in the county to lead the way by agreeing to allow ATV’s on their roads.
The Winthrop Town Council meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Barn Back Room. Next meeting is scheduled for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving starting at 7 PM.
