Following Tuesdays voter rejection of a Levy Lid Lift Proposal by Chelan Fire and Rescue, Kozi’s 2nd cup of Coffee Program received numerous calls asking the question… “Whose idea was it to build two new fire stations on the south shore?”
We figured the best person to answer that question was Fire Chief Tim Lemon. Lemon tells us that the recommendation to ask voters to raise taxes to build two stations came from a citizen’s advisory committee made up of a cross section of the community.
Bottom line is a citizen’s advisory group recommended to Fire Commissioners that a Levy Lid Lift Proposal be placed on the ballot asking voters to pay for construction of two fire stations on the south shore or Lake Chelan.
However… ultimately it is the Fire Commissioners who make the final decision on all Fire Department business… including asking the taxpayers for more money.
The next Fire Commissioner meeting is scheduled for 7 PM next Wednesday at Station 71 on the corner of Saunders and Wapato. The meetings are open to the public.
