Negotiations have begun between the Town of Twisp and Okanogan County Fire District 6. A temporary contract came about between Twisp and the Fire District in July when Twisp dissolved their fire department. The contract that Mayor Moody signed with the Okanogan Fire District was for $2,042 a month through December, which amounts to the remainder of the town’s fire budget for 2012.
At October’s town council meeting District 6 Chief Don Waller proposed a contract for $48,000 which shocked the council as they were planning on asking for even less than they paid in 2012.
Chief Don Waller explains how they came to the number they did.
Chief Waller says that the only other option Twisp has is to again start their own fire department. The next Twisp Council meeting is Tuesday the 13th.
