If you’ve lived in the Chelan area for the last five years or more you have noticed the steady increase in suicide rates.
There have been five suicides in the City of Chelan so far this year. In Chelan and DouglasCounty there have been twenty-one this year. Last year there were nineteen. In 2010 there were seventeen. Prior to 2009 there were an average of six suicides per year in Chelan and DouglasCounty.
Seeing the startling trend the Lake ChelanCommunityHospital is offering two free community suicide prevention classes called QPR.
Chief Operating Instructor of the Lake ChelanCommunityHospital, Brad Hankins informed KOZI what QPR stands for.
Hankins went on to detail who this course might most benefit.
The classes will be taught by Kurt Rossbach, the suicide prevention coordinator for the Spokane VA Center. It will be held Friday, October 5th. One class will begin at 3pm and another at 6:30pm.
