On 09-04-12 at 1:51 AM, DouglasCounty deputies were dispatched to the vicinity of mile post 2 on McNeil Canyon Road (above BeebeBridge) in reference to an injury accident involving a semi-truck and trailer.
The investigation revealed that a 2009 Kenworth tractor pulling a 2006 utility cargo trailer was west bound (down hill) on McNeil Canyon Road entering a sharp right curve when the vehicle tipped over onto the left side, broke through the guard rail, and slid about 60 feet down a steep embankment.
The driver of the truck sustained serious injuries from the collision and was found deceased inside the cab of the truck. The driver is a 44 year old male with an Illinois address. The drivers identity will not be released pending notification of next of kin. The truck and trailer were registered in Illinois.
The trailer was loaded with bagged calcium fertilizer. The trailer was destroyed and the contents dumped during the incident. A witness who was traveling east bound and had just passed the truck advised he could smell the odor of hot brakes and observed the truck flip over in his rear view mirror. The witness stopped and called for assistance.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office accident specialist and WSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer were at the scene this morning continuing the investigation.
