Parents, teachers, staff and even some students spent last Thursday stenciling and painting the playground at Chelan’s MorganOwingsElementary School preparing for a new Peaceful Playground Program.
The concept behind the program is to design a playground full of activities that allows students to play in groups and learn problems solving skills at the same time. The playground program offers age appropriate games with consistent expectations and rules.
MOEPE teacher, Randy Silva, spearheaded the effort to implement the program after teachers and administrators noticed behavioral problems on the playground.
So, as school starts back up at Morgan Owings Elementary, students can expect a few new rules at recess that will likely improve their playground experience.
