Today marks the first day of school for many local schools, including Chelan and Manson- but at the state level, test scores from last year are just now rolling in.
Washington uses the grades 3-8 Measurements of Student Progress (MSP), the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) and End-of-Course (EOC) exams to test its students.
Statewide test results are in and show more Washington state students are passing their science and math exams.
State superintendent, Randy Dorn, says the recent test scores continue to show improvement in all subjects.
In addition, the state translates its math and science exams into six languages (Spanish, Russian, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese and Somali). Students can listen to the test questions on a CD, but must answer in English.
