Coming Together For Life Event Saturday 8/8/2012
Lake ChelanCommunityHospital will host a free educational event about suicide awareness and prevention called “Coming together for life” at the ChelanHigh School this Saturday, starting at 10AM.

The event will include sessions about adult and teen suicide, how to recognize a mental health emergency and how to get a person at risk the help they need.

Brad Hankins, Chief Operations Officer for the hospital, told KOZI that hospital officials recognized late last year with the increase in local suicides, they needed to take action.

Although suicide isn’t new to the valley- the recent increase has sparked a new effort both locally and regionally regarding suicide prevention- and Hankins adds that the rate of suicide is on the rise nationally.

Again, the “coming together for life” suicide prevention event will take place this Saturday, starting at 10AM at ChelanHigh School.

If you have concerns about someone who may have suicidal thoughts, you are encouraged to call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK.
