Long Lost Bell Reunited With Community 6/29/2012
The old WinthropSchool bell that was thought to have been destroyed when the school burnt down more than five decades ago, has been recovered and will soon be placed in Mack Lloyd Park just in time for an all school reunion in early August.

During their regular meeting last week, the Winthrop Council approved plans to place a bell tower replica in the corner of the town owned park, sealing the fate of the long lost community treasure.

Elinore Drake graduated from the WinthropSchool in 1951 and served on the committee to relocate the bell.

She told KOZI that the bell was a significant part of the school- which was built between 1912 and 1914.

The WinthropSchool bell committee is accepting donations to help pay for the project- and anyone who is interested in contributing can contact Elinore at 996-2452.
