We are less than three weeks from the seventh annual Saul Gallegos Memorial Run – and organizers are asking participants to pre-register for the event.
The run is a way for friends, family and community members to honor Deputy Gallegos- a Chelan County Sheriff’s Deputy that was killed in the line of duty nine years ago.
On June 26, 2003, Deputy Saul Gallegos advised dispatch that he was investigating a report about a man with a suspended license, who was driving in the area. A short time later, a citizen used Deputy Gallegos' radio to report that an officer had been shot. The suspect was apprehended three days later in Connell and was sentenced to life in prison in 2004.
Last year’s memorial run brought in a record number of participants, with 180 registered runners. Organizers are hoping to beat that number this year.
Sheriff Deputy Sergeant Rob Huddleston, says the annual event is meant for people of all ages, and asks that those who plan to participate take the time to pre-register.
Huddleston adds that COPS – concerns of police survivors, Inc.- an organization that provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families- will be sponsoring a brunch after the run.
