The Chelan Friends of the Library met last week to regroup and discuss a change in their strategy after recently announcing they were awarded a community development block grant- to the tune of $490 thousand.
The grant will be used toward renovation and expansion and will allow the library to be finished much sooner than originally projected.
In a news release, the Washington State Department of Commerce announced that $11 million in federal grants would be awarded to rural Washington community projects.
Fifteen projects were selected from 36 applications.
Chelan City Administrator, Jim Reinbold, also serves on the Friends of the Library committee and told KOZI listeners that they are starting to feel better about the funding of the library.
Since 1982, the state community development block grant program has awarded more than $446 million in grants to community development projects.
