The worst outbreak of whooping cough, or pertussis, in decades in Washington is raising concern across the state, and prompted ChelanCounty Commissioners to include it as a topic of discussion during last week’s meeting.
Health officials recently declared an epidemic, as more than 1,000 cases of Whooping cough have been confirmed in Washington.
Commissioner Doug England says that the Chelan/Douglas health district has been faced with some drastic cuts over the past several years, making it very challenging when an epidemic breaks out.
Washington state officials believe the state could see as many as 3,000 cases by the end of 2012.
