The Washington State 2B track meet was held this past weekend at Eastern Washington Univeristy in Cheney. Manson brought a field of 12 boys and girls with them.
The Manson boys team scored a total of 17 points and placed 15th overall. This is the best showing of a Manson Track team in over 20 years.
The boys were led by Marcus Vanderholm who placed 3rd in the 1600m and 4th in the 3200m. Marcus was a contender in both races all the way to the last sprint. His 3200m effort was a personal best by almost 20 seconds and broke his own school record.
Casey Sorensen placed a respectable 5th in the shot put.
The surprise of the meet was Alex Vanderholm placing 6th in the discus. He was not ranked that high entering the meet, but out performed many of his more accomplished competitors to earn an individual medal and get points for the team.
Bailey Stevens was just a few feet short of qualifying for the finals in the 100m. He ran very well and his time placed him 10th overall.
The relay teams had a mixed effort. Both the boys and girls 4x100m relay teams placed 14th. They got the baton around cleanly but the competition was just too tough to be able to place any higher. The boys 4x400m team had a tougher time, with several of the boys running a little slow. They placed 16th overall.
It was a great season. This is the most athletes Manson has ever sent to state. The boys team placed higher than any Manson team in recent memory.
We will definitely miss all our seniors who were so instrumental in building the program up and pushing their teammates along.
