AAA Says More Drivers On Road This Year 5/24/2012
AAA projects nearly 35 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more during the Memorial Day weekend, an increase of 1.2 percent from last year.
The Memorial Day holiday, which officially begins today and goes through Monday, May 28, ranks as one of the most travelled holidays in the United States, with almost 9 out of 10 travelers taking to the roadways.
Dave Overstreet, Public Affairs Officer for AAA Washington, warns drivers that the number of vehicles on the roads this weekend will likely be higher than in past years, and air travel will be down.
AAA’s projections are based on economic forecasting and research from analyzing travel trends during the major holidays and have been reporting on holiday travel trends for more than two decades.
