Despite the absence of several city officials at last week’s council meeting, the Chelan City Council took a big step forward on the Johnson Avenue Pedestrian Safety project, awarding the construction bid to Hurst Construction in the amount of $636 thousand dollars.
The unanimous decision was reached during last Thursday’s meeting, under the direction of Mayor Pro Tem, Guy Harper, filling in for Mayor Bob Goedde who was out of town attending a conference.
The council authorized staff to negotiate a change order eliminating a mid-block cross walk that was in the original plan. The Change order brings the project back within budget which had been exceeded in the first round of bidding.
Mayor Pro Tem Harper told KOZI news that the plan has been a long time coming and awarding the bid last week was a relief.
The Chelan City Council will meet again, at 6PM on Thursday, May 10th in the Council Chambers on Johnson Ave.
