For those who have been anxiously waiting for woodcutting permits to become available, the wait is over! Woodcutting permits are now available (Tuesday, May 1) at all Okanogan-Wenatchee Forest offices.
The minimum firewood permit is $20 for four cords of wood. The cost for permits over the four-cord minimum is $5 per cord. The Forest Service is in the process of installing Point of Sale System machinery at all national forest offices. This will allow customers to use credit and debit cards, in addition to cash and checks, to pay for permits. Firewood permits are good through December 31 or until areas are no longer accessible.
A permit is required and must be in the woodcutter’s possession when cutting firewood. A woodcutting area map is a necessity. These maps show the areas that are closed to woodcutting and are available free with the woodcutting permits. After shutting off the chainsaw you must remain in the area at least one hour to watch for any potential fire starts from woodcutting equipment.
? Carry extra food, water, and clothing in the vehicle in case weather conditions change drastically
? Let someone know where you plan to go and when you will return
? Always be aware of the fire precaution level
