As spring weather becomes more prevalent in our area, some ChelanCounty Sheriff’s Deputies will be trading in their car keys for bicycles, marking the season for bike patrol.
For ChelanCounty Sheriff’s Department, putting a deputy on a bicycle has many advantages. It makes the deputy more approachable, has access to areas a car cannot go and is less obtrusive than a patrol car.
But bikes have not always been in use with the ChelanCounty Sheriff’s Office- Deputy Shawn Duke, tells us he introduced the idea to the sheriff’s department with the transition from the Chelan Police Department, where Duke saw how valuable bicycles could be.
Deputy Duke also adds it is a good time for both bicycle riders as well as drivers to freshen up on what the rules are for riding on the roadways.
