Earth Day Celebrations 4/20/2012

Take your pick of Earth Day celebrations as green-minded citizens of Chelan, Leavenworth and Entiat stage events throughout the region. Chelan County PUD is co-sponsoring the fairs in Chelan and Leavenworth and is participating in all three.

The Lake Chelan Earth Day Fair is tomorrow, Leavenworth’s LIFE2 Earth Day Community Fair is Sunday, and Entiat’s program is Tuesday.

Chelan PUD staff will share information about conservation programs that improve the comfort of customers’ homes and save money on electric bills. “Happy flowers” – solar-powered dancing flowers suitable for windowsills and desktops – will be offered to customers who sign up to support SNAP, the PUD’s solar and wind power program. The PUD’s kid-popular solar fountain will also make a splash, weather permitting.

The Lake Chelan Earth Day Fair runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Riverwalk Park. In addition to booths focusing on conservation and preservation of the environment, the event includes a flea market, food vendors and live music.

Leavenworth’s LIFE2 Earth Day Community Fair  is from noon to 4 p.m. in Lions Club Park. The fair will feature a Farmers Market showcase, health fair, educational displays, live music and food.

Entiat’s event runs from 11 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. at the Entiat School. The program includes educational displays, a scavenger hunt, poster contest and class projects. The local Tree Board will plant a tree in honor of Arbor Day to conclude the activities at 2:30 p.m.
