The ChelanCounty PUD Board of Commissioners will likely make a decision during their regular meeting on Monday, April 16th on the recommendation made last week by General Manager, John Janney.
Janney told commissioners at a special meeting Monday night, that he would like to see the PUD keep the fiber optic network and increase revenue generation to closer match maintenance and operation expenses.
Janney’s recommendation comes after the PUD conducted an extensive strategic planning process aimed at reducing or eliminating the 8 million dollars lost last year operating the fiber network.
Interim Managing Director of Fiber & Telecom Business Unit, Chris Church, says the PUD hosted a series of public meetings in March, where they presented three alternatives that were considered.
Included in Janney’s recommendation is forgiving the fiber networks $99 million internal debt owed to the PUD which accounted for 5 million dollars of last years red ink.
Church says he expects Commissioners to take action, either by adopting Janney’s recommendation, or propose changes to it at their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, April 16th, adding that the board has a tough decision ahead of them.
And be sure to tune in on Tuesday morning when visit with a ChelanCounty PUD representative about that meeting. "CLICK HERE" for Audio
