State Earthquake Practice Drill This Month 4/13/2012
There is a statewide earthquake drill this month in preparation for the Washington Shakeout. The “dry-run” drill will be initiated on April 25th at 9:45 am. and will be followed up by an official drill in October.

One million people are expected to participate in the official simultaneous “drop, cover and hold” drill which emphasizes the importance of emergency preparedness at home, school and the work place on October 18th at 10:18 am.

The event will be initiated through the Emergency Alert System using the required monthly test for the state broadcasters.

John Schelling, program manager for Washington Emergency Management Division, tells us that the intent is to boost public awareness of the state’s natural hazard.

So, what exactly is drop, cover and hold? Schelling tells us more.
