Chelan PUD To Give Entiat More Power 3/28/2012
Crews started the mobilization state of a transmission line project in the EntiatValley last week, and plans to start actual construction are set for mid-April.

The project includes building about a 6-mile transmission line northwest of Entiat, a switchyard near Earthquake Point and a substation just north of CrumCanyon. The project is designed to improve electrical service capacity, and in turn, add reliability for the valley.

The current system is near capacity, particularly during the winter months. The valley is served by a single, low-voltage transmission line that was built in 1940.

George Velazquez, project manager for Chelan CountyPUD, says the project was broken into stages before going out to bid.

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process was completed for the program in late 2008 and the District began acquiring the permits required immediately after the Decision of Non-Significance was issued.

Velazquez says that during the permitting stage, the PUD was made aware that some of the areas along the transmission route weren’t directly accessible.

Work on the EntiatValley transmission line is expected to be completed by December of 2012.
