Legislatures Weigh In On Proposed Tactic 3/26/2012
Entering the third week of a scheduled 30 day Special Session, Washington Lawmakers are considering an accounting maneuver that could provide $200 million towards the $500 million dollars needed to close the deficit in the state budget.
Senator Linda Evans-Parlette says the new trick is a cash flow issue.
State Representative, Cary Condotta, says this new trick doesn’t get to the real issue at hand, which is operating with a balanced budget.
The Washington State Association of Counties says it has no problems with the proposal, which comes as lawmakers continue to struggle to find a budget compromise.
Republicans have proposed skipping a pension payment, while Democrats have suggested delaying a payment to schools.
We’ll continue to follow the budget negotiations in Olympia and keep you up to date with changes as they occur. Join us on Friday morning at 8:35 for our weekly live radio interview with 12 Distrcit Legislators Sen.Linda EvansParlette and Rep. Cary Codotta and Mike Armstrong.
