Former Eastmont School Board President Brad Hawkins announced his candidacy Saturday for State Representative of the 12th Legislative District Position 2 currently held by Mike Armstrong. The 12th Legislative District includes Chelan County, Douglas County, and portions of Okanogan and Grant Counties.
Hawkins was raised in Chelan County and has lived and worked in Douglas County most of his adult life. He graduated from Wenatchee High School and earned a master’s degree in Public Administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He has worked at the Washington State Legislature in Olympia as a staff member in the House of Representatives and as an intern in the Washington State Senate.
Hawkins brings 10 years of local school board experience to his candidacy, having served on both the North Central Educational Service District Board and the Eastmont School Board.
In announcing his candidacy Hawkins said, “I believe that my past experience at the state legislature, my years of work for a local utility, and my commitment to our public schools uniquely qualifies me to serve as one of our state representatives.”
Hawkins is now the second candidate to formally announce intent to challenge current 12th District Legislators. Local attorney Stan Morse declared his intent in February to occupy Position 1 currently held by Representative Cary Condotta. The official filing period is in May.
