Washington State Department of Ecology has added a former underground storage tank site near the shores of Lake Chelan to a list of hazardous sites.
When the Lake Chelan Boat Company contracted to have a 10,000 gallon diesel storage tank removed last November workers found signs the tank had been leaking. Tom Guthrie assessed the site for the Chelan-Douglas Health District under an agreement with the state Department of Health and spoke with KOZI News about his findings.
Guthrie says that because the site received the lowest rating, it may not be cleaned up at all.
ChelanCounty now has 26 sites listed as hazardous, one of those being the Holden Mine site, which was ranked at the top of the list.
