Do We Still Need General Facility Charges? 3/13/2012
City of Chelan officials are celebrating a combination of low construction bids and excellent loan terms as they move to complete several projects that have been in the planning stages for years. Chelan Public Works Director Dwayne Van Epps reports that construction bids are proving to be a pleasant surprise.
So, what does this mean for the future of development in Chelan?
According to VanEpps, it could mean an amendment to General Facility Charges or GFC’s. GFC’s were adopted in 2006 to as a method to generate revenue for water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades to accommodate for future growth. Since that time development has slowed dramatically and projections for future growth may need to be amended.  Combined with lower than estimated project costs, Van Epps says some changes might be in store for General Facility Charges.
Construction on the Wastewater Pipeline Replacement may begin as soon as this week according to Van Epps.
