The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office is seeking volunteers to help determine how millions of dollars in state grant funds will be spent in Washington’s great outdoors.
The grant applications will be dispersed through two statewide programs. One is the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program, which provides grants to build and renovate parks and trails as well as protect and restore valuable wildlife habitat and farmland. The second is the Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account which provides grants to restore Washington shorelines and create access for people to the waterfront. Grants will be awarded to cities, counties, state agencies, tribes and others.
Susan Zemek, spokeswoman for the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office says volunteers should be active in whatever kind of committee they are applying for.
Zemek adds that although the positions are not paid, volunteers have a unique opportunity to have their voice heard on which projects will be funded.
Application forms are available on the Washington State Recreation and Conservation website at www.rco.wa.gov and are due by March 30th.
